INDIANA — A woman is accused of stealing a Fort Wayne Police Department vehicle and crashing it after officers initially responded to a disturbance Monday afternoon, according to police.
The incident began just after 3 p.m. when officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue for reports of an unwanted person. When officers arrived, they encountered an incoherent woman but determined she had not committed a crime and released her.
Police said the woman returned to the scene shortly afterward, entered an empty and unlocked marked patrol car and drove away.
Officers initiated a brief pursuit that ended less than a mile away when the woman crashed the stolen police vehicle into another car at the intersection of East State Boulevard and St. Joseph Boulevard.
Authorities said both drivers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
