FLORIDA — A deadly motorcycle crash shut down part of Interstate 75 in Broward County Sunday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened just before 7 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-75, also known as Alligator Alley, near mile marker 45.

Authorities said the crash involved multiple motorcycles and caused significant debris to scatter across the roadway. NBC6 cameras showed two motorcycles in the grass near the crash site.

Officials did not immediately release information about the people involved or what may have led to the crash.

All eastbound lanes were closed for several hours as crews worked the scene, and drivers were seen getting out of their vehicles during the backup.

The roadway reopened before midnight.

The crash remains under investigation.
