NORTH CAROLINA — Two people have been arrested after a shooting outside a funeral home in Burlington led to a police chase and crash, according to authorities.
Officers with the Burlington Police Department responded around 2:15 p.m. Saturday to Rich and Thompson Funeral Home after receiving a 911 call.
Police said a fight broke out outside the funeral home following a funeral for a 2-year-old child. During the altercation, a man identified as 24-year-old Trevonte Jaquan McGhee is accused of firing multiple rounds from a rifle.
Authorities said McGhee then got into a vehicle, prompting a police chase. During the pursuit, he allegedly threw the rifle out of the car.
The chase ended when the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cazari Monique Russell, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house.
Russell was arrested at the scene, and McGhee was taken into custody after attempting to flee, police said.
McGhee faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a firearm within city limits, disorderly conduct at a funeral home and leaving the scene of a crash as a passenger.
Russell is charged with going armed to the terror of the public, misdemeanor conspiracy, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light.
The investigation remains ongoing.
