
ILLINOIS — A 45-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a crash involving an Illinois State Police trooper in Springfield, according to authorities.
Illinois State Police said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of 6th Street and Linton Avenue.
Investigators said the trooper was traveling south on 6th Street when the vehicle struck the man, who was reportedly bent down in the roadway.
The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office said the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 3:15 a.m.
Officials have not released the man’s identity pending notification of his family. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
The incident remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
