
MARYLAND — A highway worker was killed Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash on Interstate 495 in Prince George’s County, according to police.
Maryland State Police said the incident happened on the inner loop of I-495 near Exit 4 in the Forestville area shortly before noon.
Investigators said two vehicles had collided on the interstate, prompting lane closures as crews worked to clear the scene. A worker with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration was placing cones on the roadway to redirect traffic when they were hit by another vehicle.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity as officials work to notify family members.
The crash remains under investigation by Maryland State Police.
