One person dead following vehicle crash on I-26 in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — The driver of a transit van was killed in a wrong-way crash early Friday morning on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, according to authorities.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 9 in Inman, South Carolina.

Investigators said a tractor-trailer was traveling west when a transit van was heading east in the westbound lanes. The two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured and taken to a hospital.

The name of the victim has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
