NORTH CAROLINA — A teenager is facing charges following a crash in Stokes County that left a woman dead, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened at approximately 9:29 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 8 and South Stokes School Road.
Authorities reported that 67-year-old Almeta Bridges Sizemore was driving a 2020 Hyundai Veloster south on N.C. 8 when a 17-year-old driving a 2019 gray Nissan Versa attempted to make a left turn onto the highway from South Stokes School Road. Investigators said the teenager failed to yield the right of way.
Sizemore attempted to swerve to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles crashed in the intersection, troopers said. After the impact, the Nissan Versa came to a stop in the roadway. Sizemore’s vehicle continued off the road, striking a power line and a concrete driveway before coming to a stop.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to a hospital. Authorities said Sizemore later died from her injuries at 10:46 a.m.
The 17-year-old driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to yield the right of way, and failure to stop at a stop sign. The crash remains under investigation.
