GEORGIA — A motorcyclist was arrested following a police chase that ended in a crash Monday evening in Burke County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers said the incident began around 6:44 p.m. on Highway 25 when a blue motorcycle passed a trooper traveling 97 mph in a 65 mph zone. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit.

Authorities said the driver changed directions multiple times along Highway 25 and at one point was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

The chase continued onto Four Points Road, where troopers attempted to move the motorcycle onto the shoulder. According to officials, the motorcyclist then attempted to pass the patrol car but lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn and slide into the back of the patrol vehicle.

Both vehicles came to a stop, and the driver attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended after a short chase, troopers said.

Officials reported that both the motorcyclist and the trooper sustained minor injuries.

Troopers said the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and also had several outstanding felony warrants.

The investigation remains ongoing.
