ALABAMA — An Alabama Department of Transportation worker was injured in a work zone crash Monday in Walker County, according to officials.
The incident occurred April 20 on Highway 5 northwest of Jasper while the worker was performing shoulder work. Authorities said a vehicle struck the worker’s truck during the incident.
Officials said the worker is expected to be OK. Two people in the other vehicle were also transported to a hospital for treatment.
The crash comes as National Work Zone Awareness Week began Monday, highlighting safety concerns for roadside crews.
ALDOT officials said speed and distracted driving remain the biggest dangers in work zones and are urging drivers to slow down and stay alert.
The crash remains under investigation.
