TENNESSEE — A Detroit man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he led Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a vehicle chase and was later found in possession of a large amount of narcotics.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Marquis Gilbert was arrested Monday, April 20, following a pursuit that began as a traffic stop. Investigators said Gilbert initially pulled over but fled when detectives approached his vehicle and asked him to step out, prompting a chase that officials said put other drivers at risk.
Authorities said Gilbert has been arrested five times since 2022 on narcotics-related and evading charges and was on probation at the time of the incident.
During the pursuit, deputies said Gilbert threw narcotics from his vehicle before turning onto a dead-end road, where the chase ended and he was taken into custody.
Following his arrest, detectives obtained a search warrant for his residence. Officials reported finding approximately 13 pounds of marijuana, about $20,000 believed to be drug proceeds, two handguns and 15 grams of suspected morphine pills.
In a statement, KCSO Chief of Detectives David Amburn said the agency remains committed to addressing repeat offenders and protecting the community.
“The Knox County Sheriff’s Office takes every narcotics trafficking case seriously, but when a repeat offender chooses to endanger the lives of our citizens in an effort to escape accountability, that danger only strengthens our resolve,” Amburn said.
The case remains under investigation.
