One person dead following vehicle crash in Illinois

ILLINOIS — A man was killed in a late-night crash on Chicago’s Southwest Side after his vehicle struck another car, then crashed into a tree and fence before catching fire, police said.

The crash occurred just before midnight in the 4400 block of South Pulaski Road in the Archer Heights neighborhood of Chicago.

According to authorities, the driver of a Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on Pulaski Road at a high rate of speed when he struck a Honda Pilot driven by a 67-year-old man who was entering traffic.

Police said the impact caused the Jeep driver to lose control of the vehicle. The Jeep then struck a tree and a fence before catching fire.

The male driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the Honda Pilot was not injured, and no other injuries were reported.

Area detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
