OHIO — A 13-year-old boy from Cleveland has been taken into custody after allegedly making threats of violence that prompted a shelter-in-place at Shaker Heights Middle School, authorities said.

According to the Shaker Heights Police Department, the threats were called into the school on Thursday after dismissal and again Friday morning around 8:58 a.m. The incidents triggered an immediate response from law enforcement and school officials, including a precautionary shelter-in-place order.

Police said no weapons or dangerous devices were found on school grounds, and all students and staff were accounted for safely.

Following an investigation, officers identified the suspect as a Cleveland resident who is not a student at the school and was never physically present on campus. The boy was taken into custody, and potential charges are under review by the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.

School officials said there is no ongoing threat to the district and praised law enforcement for their swift response. Counseling services remain available for students who may be experiencing anxiety following the incident.

Authorities are urging parents and guardians to speak with their children about the serious consequences of making threats, noting such actions can lead to criminal charges and put others at risk.
