MISSISSIPPI — A woman was shot and killed early Saturday in what police say is a domestic violence incident in Laurel.
According to the Laurel Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of West 16th Street.
When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The victim has not yet been publicly identified.
Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident. Police said the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Ivan Pugh, turned himself in to authorities around 9 a.m. Saturday.
Pugh, who police say is the victim’s boyfriend, has been charged with one count of murder. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.
