TEXAS — Two people are dead and a firefighter was taken to the hospital following a crash and hazmat incident in Fort Worth on Thursday, according to officials.
Fort Worth police and firefighters responded just before 11:30 a.m. to the 1900 block of Delga Street for reports of a crash.
Investigators said a car struck a parked vehicle and continued a short distance before coming to a stop. Officers found a man dead in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Fire crews attempted to provide medical care to the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the response, firefighters discovered a large amount of an unknown chemical inside the vehicle, prompting a hazmat response. A firefighter was transported to a hospital due to possible exposure, officials said.
Authorities secured the area and called in detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and the hazardous materials.
Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The identities of the two men have not been released and will be confirmed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
