MARYLAND — Federal authorities have charged five men following a coordinated takedown of an alleged drug-trafficking organization operating in North Baltimore, officials announced Wednesday.

The investigation focused on activity in the 500 block of Sheridan Avenue. Those charged include Omar Gilliam, 43; Derrell Washington Coates, 42; Kevin Harris, 34; Darren Farmer, 36; and Stephen Oliver, 38.

Prosecutors said Gilliam, Coates, Harris and Farmer are each charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, including heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine. Oliver is charged with distribution and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Gilliam and Oliver also face gun-related charges tied to prior felony convictions.

According to officials, the investigation began in August 2025 and involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives working alongside Baltimore police. Authorities used confidential informants, controlled purchases and surveillance to identify suspects and gather evidence.

Investigators said informants conducted multiple controlled buys of drugs and firearms, leading to at least 15 transactions tied to the group. On April 8, law enforcement executed search warrants at several locations in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, arresting four of the suspects. The fifth suspect was taken into custody later.

During the operation, authorities seized several firearms and nearly 400 grams of suspected narcotics.

Officials emphasized that the charges are allegations and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the area targeted in the investigation has long been associated with drug activity, adding that authorities hope the arrests will bring stability to the neighborhood.

The investigation remains ongoing.
