Thousands without power Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — More than 10,000 homes and businesses across Mississippi are without electricity Wednesday evening, according to outage tracking data.

PowerOutage.us reported that 10,672 customers are without power statewide out of roughly 1.48 million tracked customers. The outages represent about 0.72% of electricity users in the state.

Hinds County reported the highest number of outages, with 3,783 customers affected.

Madison County followed with 3,001 outages, and Rankin County reported 1,659 customers without electricity. Smaller outages were also reported in Wilkinson, Sharkey, Attala, Yazoo and Warren counties.

Among utilities, Entergy reported the largest number of outages, with 9,597 customers without power. Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association reported 844 outages, while Mississippi Power and other utilities reported smaller numbers of affected customers.

Mississippi ranked second in the nation for total outages and first for the percentage of customers affected Wednesday evening, according to the outage monitoring site. Utility crews were continuing restoration efforts as officials monitored the situation.
