
MISSISSIPPI — Jackson police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after striking and killing a man in a wheelchair Monday night.
According to the Jackson Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:41 p.m. in the 410 block of East McDowell Road. Officers responded to a call reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.
Police said the victim, who was using a wheelchair, was struck by a vehicle whose driver left the scene. Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the victim as 31-year-old Denzel Smith.
The department’s accident investigation unit and mobile crime unit are assisting in the case. Authorities described the investigation as ongoing.
