OHIO — A local man is celebrating a $50,000 lottery win after a spontaneous stop at a gas station on his way home for Easter.
The man stopped at Speedway #7611, located at 11584 Allen Road in Octa, where he noticed a woman playing a scratch-off ticket. Inspired, he decided to try his luck and purchased an Ultimate $5,000,000 Scratch-Off ticket.
After buying the ticket, he realized he didn’t have any coins to scratch it. The woman offered him her “lucky scratcher,” allowing him to reveal the results.
As he scratched the ticket, he noticed matching numbers and quickly realized he had a winning ticket. When the woman scanned it using the Ohio Lottery app, both were stunned to learn the prize amounted to $50,000.
In appreciation, the man gave the woman $100 — the only cash he had on hand — despite her initial reluctance to accept it. He later said he was so overwhelmed that he didn’t even ask for her name.
After returning to his vehicle, the man called his wife to share the news. She initially didn’t believe him until he sent her a photo of the winning ticket.
The winner said he plans to use the money to pay off bills, help his daughter with a down payment on a car, and take his wife on a vacation to Myrtle Beach.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
