NORTH CAROLINA — A Sunday morning crash in Sampson County left one teenager dead and another seriously injured, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Airport Road, just outside the Clinton city limits.
Authorities identified the driver as 18-year-old Aiden Lee Reams. He was traveling at a high rate of speed with a 17-year-old passenger, Carson Faircloth, when the vehicle ran off the roadway. Investigators said Reams lost control, and the car crashed into a tree.
Faircloth was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews transported Reams to WakeMed with serious injuries.
State Highway Patrol officials said speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
