16-year-old dead, two injured following collision in Ohio

HAMILTON — A fatal crash early Thursday morning on West Elkton Road, about 20 minutes north of Hamilton, claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left two others with life-threatening injuries.

According to Steve Poff, head of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction unit, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the 16-year-old’s 2005 Pontiac crossed the center line and collided with a Chevy Suburban driven by a 60-year-old man.

The teenage driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 13-year-old sister, who was a passenger in the Pontiac, was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Suburban was also flown to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The teen who died was a student in the Preble Shawnee Local School District, while his sister is currently in the eighth grade.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
