OHIO — Wawa has officially entered Ohio, opening its first store in the state on Wednesday as part of a broader expansion into territory long dominated by rival convenience chain Sheetz.

The new Wawa store in Liberty Township marked the company’s Ohio debut with a grand opening celebration. “61 years. 10 states. and today, we open our first-ever ohio store!” Wawa wrote on Instagram, thanking employees, local officials, customers, and partners.

The company first announced its plans to expand into Ohio in 2023.

Over the next decade, Wawa intends to build 60 stores across the state, with 10 stores set to open in 2025, another 10 in 2026, and five per year after that.

More than 16 sites are already under contract in Clermont, Butler, Clinton, Greene, Hamilton, Miami, Montgomery, and Warren counties.

Meanwhile, Sheetz is also strengthening its presence in Ohio with a $145 million distribution facility under construction in Findlay.

Wawa currently operates over 1,000 locations across 11 states and Washington, D.C., while Sheetz has more than 740 stores in six states, including Ohio.
