LAS VEGAS — During a Saturday night event in Las Vegas promoting his “No Tax on Tips” proposal, former President Donald Trump made a lighthearted remark about serving beyond the traditional two-term limit.

“It will be the greatest honor of my life to serve not once, but twice or three or four times,” Trump said, followed by a chuckle.

Anticipating media reaction, he added, “Headlines, headlines, headlines, from the fake news—no, it will be to serve twice.”

Under the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1951, a president is limited to two elected terms, or a maximum of 10 years if they assume office mid-term and serve less than two years of their predecessor’s term.

While some of Trump’s allies have suggested he seek another term, the constitutional restriction remains in place.

The only president in U.S. history to serve more than two terms was Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was elected to four terms before the amendment was enacted.
