OHIO — A Guatemalan man who illegally returned to the United States after being deported has been sentenced to 19 months in federal prison.
Eduardo Lopez-Jiguan, 35, was sentenced on March 18, 2025, to 13 months in prison for illegal reentry.
U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick also imposed an additional six-month sentence for violating the terms of his supervised release, bringing his total prison time to 19 months.
Lopez-Jiguan had previously been deported in 2020 and 2023.
In August 2024, immigration officials discovered he had illegally reentered the country and located him at the Huron County Jail, where he had been serving time for falsification and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Lopez-Jiguan was previously convicted in February 2023 of illegal reentry and possession of a fraudulent identification document.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ava Rotell Dustin for the Northern District of Ohio.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a federal initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
