OHIO — A 27-year-old Cleveland man is in custody after leading officers on a pursuit through Parma Friday afternoon, according to the Parma Police Department.
Police said officers initially stopped a 2004 Chevrolet Equinox for an equipment violation near Brookpark Road and Chevrolet Boulevard around 3:25 p.m.
During the stop, the driver sped away heading east on Brookpark Road.
Officers deployed stop-sticks, which flattened one of the vehicle’s rear tires.
Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving until the vehicle came to a stop near Brookpark Road and W. 54th Street.
Authorities said the suspect, carrying a firearm, exited the vehicle and fled on foot through nearby backyards.
During the chase, the suspect fired one shot but did not hit anyone, according to police.
Officers caught the man in the 5600 block of Bradley Avenue and took him into custody just before 5 p.m.
As a precaution, Thoreau Park Elementary School was placed on lockdown during the incident. Neighboring police departments also assisted by setting up a perimeter, which has since been cleared.
Charges are pending, and the case remains under investigation, officials said.
