Ohio to experience first major snowstorm of the season Monday

OHIO — A winter storm watch has been issued for Columbus and surrounding counties, with five to 10 inches of snow and mixed precipitation expected from Sunday morning through Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington.

The watch covers Union, Delaware, Champaign, Clark, Madison, Franklin, Licking, Greene, Fayette, Pickaway, Fairfield, and Hocking counties.

Roads are likely to become slick and hazardous, making travel difficult, NWS warns.

As of Friday morning, Columbus has already received around two inches of snow from overnight showers.

Less than an inch of additional snow is expected Friday, with official snowfall measurements to be released later.

Most local schools remain on winter break until Monday, though up to 10 inches of snow could be on the ground by then.

  • Friday: Snow likely before 3 p.m., mostly cloudy with a high of 31°F. Winds will increase to 13-18 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Less than half an inch of additional snow expected.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, low of 19°F.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, high near 24°F. Wind gusts up to 11 mph.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly clear, low near 16°F.
  • Sunday: Snow likely after 1 p.m., mostly cloudy with a high near 27°F. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Sunday Night: Snow expected, low near 23°F. NWS forecasts 3-5 inches of snow.
  • Monday: Chance of snow, mostly cloudy with a high near 30°F. Precipitation chance is 70%.
  • Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, low around 12°F.

Travelers are advised to monitor updates and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
