Ohio news reporter dead after being struck by vehicle

OHIO — Former Cleveland 19 reporter Bill Safos, 58, has died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Orchard Grove Avenue, according to Lakewood Police Captain William Albrecht.

Safos was attempting to cross Madison Avenue from north to south when he was hit by a westbound vehicle.

Police say he was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Officers found Safos lying in the roadway and transported him to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

The vehicle was towed, and the driver was released following an interview, Captain Albrecht stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
