OHIO — An Ohio man has been arrested on multiple charges stemming from his alleged participation in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Jamie Wright, 36, of Bowerston, Ohio, faces both felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with the incident, which interrupted a joint session of Congress to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

Wright was apprehended by the FBI in Canton, Ohio, and made his first court appearance in the Northern District of Ohio.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia, he is charged with a felony count of obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder, as well as several misdemeanor offenses, including entering restricted grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted area, and disorderly conduct within Capitol grounds.

Court documents allege that Wright was seen near police barricades on the East Front of the Capitol grounds wearing a black hooded jacket and a red “Trump 2020” hat.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Wright and others pushing against the barricades around 1:45 p.m.

Officers temporarily restored the barriers, but minutes later, Wright allegedly attempted to pull the barricades back from officers.

Shortly after, he and other rioters reportedly removed a bike rack barrier, pushing it back into the crowd.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., it is alleged that Wright made another attempt to breach the barricades. Alongside other rioters, he is accused of pushing through the barriers and waving others forward toward the Capitol building.

Further footage shows Wright on the Capitol terrace, once again encouraging rioters to advance.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with support from the Department of Justice’s National Security Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

The investigation is led by the FBI’s Cleveland and Washington Field Offices, in cooperation with the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Since the Capitol breach, over 1,500 individuals from nearly every state have been charged, with more than 570 facing charges of assault or interference with law enforcement.
