
VIRGINIA — A 20-year-old man from Boydton was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Mecklenburg County on New Year’s Day, according to the Virginia State Police.
Troopers said they were called to the northbound lanes of I-85 at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, near mile marker 9, a few miles from the Route 58 exit. Investigators determined that a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north when it ran off the right side of the roadway.
Police said the vehicle slid before striking a tree on the driver’s side. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Brandon Alexander of Boydton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Alexander was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
