ILLINOIS — An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged following a stabbing that occurred over the weekend in Paris, Illinois.
According to the Paris Police Department, officers were dispatched around noon Sunday to the 500 block of West End Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they found a 51-year-old man who reported that he had been stabbed multiple times. Officers rendered first aid until medical personnel from Horizon Health Ambulancearrived and transported the victim for treatment.
Following an investigation, police arrested 18-year-old Mason W. Ross. Authorities said the victim identified Ross as a temporary resident of the home where the incident occurred.
Ross was initially booked into the Edgar County Jail on a preliminary charge of aggravated domestic battery. Court records show additional charges have since been filed, including attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and domestic battery.
Ross made his first court appearance Wednesday, during which prosecutors filed a petition seeking his detention prior to trial. The court granted the request, citing a real and present threat to the victim and the community. Ross was remanded to the custody of the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office.
He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 26.
