OHIO — A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of northeast Ohio as lake-effect snow is expected to impact the region beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing into early Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland said the advisory will be in place from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday for Lorain, Medina, Wayne, Stark and Mahoning counties. Forecasters expect 3 to 5 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

Cities expected to see impacts include Lorain, Elyria, Avon Lake, Medina, Brunswick, Wadsworth, Wooster, Orrville, Massillon, Canton, Alliance, Youngstown, Boardman and Austintown.

Snow-covered and slippery roads are expected, which could lead to slower travel and hazardous driving conditions, especially during the Wednesday evening and overnight hours. Officials say the conditions may affect post-holiday travel across northeast Ohio.

Residents are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed any travel advisories and delay unnecessary trips during the advisory period.

Drivers are encouraged to check road and traffic conditions before traveling by visiting ohgo.com.

The winter weather advisory remains in effect until early Thursday morning as lake-effect snow continues across the region.
