OHIO — A 20-year-old man who had been reported missing was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County on Monday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash involved a 2004 GMC Sierra that veered off the left side of U.S. Route 36 in Salem Township. The pickup truck traveled down an embankment and struck several trees. Authorities received a call reporting a disabled vehicle over an embankment shortly after 11 a.m. Troopers located the truck about 30 minutes later.
The driver was identified as Zachary D. Williams, who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the highway patrol, both Williams and the vehicle matched a missing persons report filed by police in Newcomerstown on Sunday night.
Investigators said Williams was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
