FLORIDA — Two people accused of stealing an all-terrain vehicle were arrested after leading deputies on a chase that ended in a crash, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Michaela Mullin and Caleb Rachel stole an ATV from a local business. On Saturday, an officer with the Arcadia Police Department spotted the stolen ATV and alerted DeSoto County deputies to its direction of travel.
Dash camera video released by authorities shows the pair riding the ATV on the wrong side of the road while deputies followed alongside. At one point, a deputy attempted to block their path. The ATV then left the roadway, went into a ditch, and the riders were thrown from the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mullin and Rachel ran from the scene on foot but were quickly taken into custody.
Both were charged with grand theft motor vehicle. Deputies said the stolen ATV was recovered and returned to its owner later the same night.
