Measurable snowfall possible in Michigan next week

MICHIGAN — The National Weather Service is warning of an impactful winter storm expected to affect Michigan beginning Sunday and continuing into early next week.

According to forecasters, the storm system is expected to bring accumulating snow, strong winds and areas of blowing snow across much of the state. The highest chances for heavy snowfall are forecast for the Upper Peninsula and the snowbelt regions of Lower Michigan.

In portions of Lower Michigan, precipitation is expected to begin as rain during the daytime hours Sunday before transitioning to snow Sunday night into Monday as colder air moves into the region.

Gusty winds may accompany the storm, potentially reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly in areas that receive heavier snowfall.

The National Weather Service cautioned that there is still uncertainty regarding snowfall totals and the overall intensity of the storm system. Forecasts may change as the system develops, and residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and advisories in the coming days.

Additional information will be released as confidence in the storm track and impacts increases.
