NORTH CAROLINA — A man was arrested on multiple felony charges following a traffic stop in Asheboro on Christmas Eve, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said deputies conducted a traffic stop on West Dixie Drive on Dec. 24, 2025, involving 35-year-old Toni Charles Koontz. Authorities said Koontz initially failed to stop but eventually pulled over near the intersection of 64 and Park Street.

During the stop, deputies determined Koontz did not have a valid driver’s license and appeared extremely nervous, according to authorities. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and alerted officers to the presence of illegal narcotics. A subsequent search led to the seizure of methamphetamine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies also said a juvenile female passenger initially provided false identification. Further investigation revealed she was a missing and endangered juvenile. She was later turned over to the Randolph County Department of Social Services.

Koontz was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Authorities said Koontz is being held without bond under the pretrial integrity act. His first court appearance was scheduled for Dec. 26, 2025.
