PENNSYLVANIA — A Pennsylvania lottery player is celebrating a $1 million win after matching five numbers in the Powerball drawing held on Christmas Eve.

The drawing produced a single jackpot-winning ticket sold in Arkansas, which matched all six numbers to claim the estimated $1.82 billion grand prize.

The jackpot grew to approximately $1.817 billion after ticket sales, making it the second-largest lottery jackpot ever won in the United States. The only larger jackpot was a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in November 2022.

While the jackpot was not won in Pennsylvania, one ticket sold in the state matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize. Pennsylvania was among eight states with $1 million winners in the Christmas Eve drawing, along with California, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, and two tickets sold in New York.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 4, 25, 31, 52, and 59, with Powerball 19.

Following the jackpot win, the Powerball prize has now reset to its starting amount of $20 million ahead of the next drawing scheduled for Saturday. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. According to Powerball officials, the odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million.
