NORTH CAROLINA — One person was killed in a crash Sunday night on U.S. Highway 70 in Johnston County, according to state troopers.
Troopers said they were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. on U.S. 70 near Old Cornwallis Road, close to the town of Princeton. Investigators determined that a pickup truck struck the rear of an SUV that was turning into a driveway along the highway.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Tracy Nichols, died at the scene as a result of the crash, troopers said.
The driver of the pickup truck, Linwood Beasley, was arrested following the collision. Beasley was charged with felony death by vehicle, reckless driving, and carrying a concealed weapon.
According to troopers, alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
