
VIRGINIA — Multiple people were arrested following a nearly six-month investigation into a drug trafficking organization operating between Cleveland, Ohio, and Carroll County, Virginia, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said the investigation was conducted in partnership with the Virginia State Police and resulted in the seizure of more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, a firearm, and drug paraphernalia. Investigators identified numerous suspects from both Virginia and out of state during the course of the investigation.
Among those arrested were Cornelius Charles Chunn, Jodie Michelle Petty, and Marilyn Ann Hawks. Authorities said evidence shows that Chunn and Petty trafficked kilogram quantities of methamphetamine into the Carroll County area from Ohio.
Chunn is charged with manufacturing, selling, giving, distributing, or possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance; transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth; and maintaining a premises deemed a common nuisance. Petty faces similar charges, including manufacturing or distributing a controlled substance or imitation controlled substance, transporting controlled substances into Virginia, and maintaining a common nuisance property.
Hawks is charged with manufacturing or distributing a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while in possession of certain substances, and possession or transportation of firearms by a convicted felon.
The sheriff’s office said the case remains active and has been adopted by a federal agency. The investigation involved the Virginia State Police Twin County Drug Task Force, which includes members of the Virginia State Police, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsville Police Department, and Galax Police Department.
