NORTH CAROLINA — An Onslow County man is facing multiple drug-related charges following an arrest Monday by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.
According to arrest warrants, James Dorsey Cothren, 38, was taken into custody on Monday, Dec. 22. He is charged with two counts of felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, and felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.
Authorities said a deputy sheriff was investigating a suspicious person at a closed business when Cothren allegedly resisted and obstructed the investigation by providing a fictitious name to the officer. Warrants state the deputy was performing an official duty at the time.
According to court documents, Cothren was found in possession of drug paraphernalia, including smoking devices, multiple straws, lighters, and a glass pipe, which investigators say were intended for the use of controlled substances other than marijuana. He is also accused of possessing cocaine and fentanyl, both classified as Schedule II controlled substances under North Carolina law.
In addition, authorities allege Cothren possessed fentanyl inside the Onslow County Detention Center after being asked whether he had any narcotics on him prior to entering the facility.
Cothren is being held without bond at the Onslow County Jail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, Dec. 22.
