FLORIDA — Public schools across Florida will be closed on two days in January 2026 in observance of federal holidays, according to school calendars.

Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day. The holiday marks the first day of the new year and is recognized nationwide.

Classes and normal school operations are expected to resume on the following school day, based on local district schedules.

Schools will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The holiday honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader of the civil rights movement.

Families are encouraged to check with their local school districts for any additional schedule details or calendar updates.
