GEORGIA — Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver early Sunday morning, according to the Athens-Clarke Police Department.

Police said just after midnight, officers received reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on the GA 10 Inner Loop. Moments later, a crash was reported on the Inner Loop near Oglethorpe Avenue.

Investigators determined that a 2021 Kia Seltos driven by 26-year-old Desiree Browning, of Lawrenceville, was traveling the wrong way when it struck a Mercedes-Benz and then a Ford Expedition that were traveling on the loop. Police said the Kia continued in the wrong direction and then collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.

After the collision, the Kia came to rest on cable barriers and caught fire, police said.

Authorities said the driver of the Toyota Camry, 25-year-old Soonhoon Choi of Athens, died at the scene from his injuries. A passenger in the Camry was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz and the Ford Expedition suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Santos with the Athens-Clarke Police Department by email or by calling 762-400-7258.
