OHIO — Schools across Ohio will be closed for at least two days next month in observance of scheduled holidays in January 2026, according to school district calendars.
All public school districts in the state will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in recognition of New Year’s Day. The holiday is a federally recognized observance and is routinely included as a non-instructional day on Ohio school calendars.
In addition, schools will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The holiday honors the civil rights leader and is observed nationwide on the third Monday of January each year.
Because both holidays fall on weekdays in 2026, students will not attend classes on those dates. School officials note that these closures are planned in advance and included in academic calendars approved earlier this year.
Families are encouraged to check with their local school districts for any additional closures or schedule adjustments that may occur during the month.
