Thousands without power in Virginia

VIRGINIA — Nearly 20,000 customers across Virginia were without electricity Friday morning following a line of storms that moved through the state overnight, according to PowerOutage.com.

As of the latest update, 19,342 customers were reported without power out of more than 4 million customers tracked statewide. The outages were spread across multiple regions, including northern Virginia, southwest Virginia, and parts of central and coastal Virginia.

Fairfax County reported the highest number of outages with 2,064 customers without power. Virginia Beach followed closely with 2,032 outages. In southwest Virginia, Buchanan County reported 1,948 customers affected, while Montgomery County saw 1,462 outages.

Rockingham County reported 1,240 customers without electricity. Additional outages were reported in Amherst County with 996 customers affected, Albemarle County with 968 outages, and Dickenson County with 848.

The outages occurred after strong storms moved across Virginia late Thursday night into early Friday morning, bringing gusty winds and periods of heavy rain.

Utility crews are working Friday morning to assess damage and restore service. Residents are urged to avoid downed power lines and report outages to their utility providers as restoration efforts continue.
