TENNESSEE — Several school systems in East Tennessee announced closures and delayed starts for Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, as power outages and related issues continued following overnight storms.

In Sullivan County, Rock Springs Elementary School and Sullivan Heights Middle School were closed Friday due to a power outage affecting the buildings.

Jefferson County Schools announced a one-hour delayed start for Friday morning.

Union County Schools were closed for the day due to widespread power outages in the area. Several school buildings were without electricity early Friday morning, impacting heating systems, lighting, and other essential operations.

School leaders encouraged families to monitor official district communication channels for updates, particularly as utility crews continue working to restore power across affected communities.
