INDIANA — Schools across Indiana announced widespread closures, delays, and shifts to virtual learning for Friday, December 12, 2025, as winter weather is expected to create hazardous morning travel. Many districts opted for two-hour delays, while others moved instruction entirely online.
In Madison and Lawrence counties, Anderson Community Schools, Anderson Preparatory Academy, Frankton-Lapel Community Schools, Lawrence County Independent Schools, Mitchell Community Schools, Spencer-Owen Community Schools, and Springville Community Academy will all open two hours late.
The Bloomfield School District and Shakamak Schools MSD will operate with synchronous e-learning, while Brooke’s Place and Shepherd Community Center will offer online-only services. Central Christian Academy will be closed.
Southern Indiana is seeing the largest number of closures. Borden-Henryville, Clarksville Community Schools, Clarksville Elementary, Clarksville High, Clarksville Middle, Greater Clark County Schools, Lanesville Community Schools, Providence High School, Community Montessori, Salem Community Schools, South Harrison Schools, and West Washington Schools will all be closed with virtual learning only, marking a significant regional shift away from in-person instruction.
St. John’s Lutheran School in Lanesville, St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School, and St. Michael Community Child Care have also announced full closures.
Several districts will operate NTI or non-traditional instruction, including East Washington Schools, New Albany Floyd County Schools, Rock Creek Community Academy, and Silver Creek School Corporation, reflecting ongoing concerns about icy road conditions.
Officials urge families to check for updates throughout the morning as weather may continue to affect transportation and scheduling.
