TENNESSEE — Several school districts in Northeast Tennessee have announced closures or delayed schedules for Friday, December 12, 2025, as winter weather is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the region.
Carter County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, giving road crews additional time to address slick and untreated roads. Unicoi County Schools in Erwin have also announced a two-hour delay.
Johnson County Schools in Mountain City will be closed Friday, marking the most significant schedule change in the area as higher elevations anticipate more severe conditions. Nearby, Rogersville City Schools plan to open two hours late, also citing concerns about early-morning travel.
Across the state line in Kentucky, Harlan County Schools have declared an NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) Day, keeping students at home while continuing coursework remotely.
Officials in all districts encourage families to monitor local updates as weather conditions may shift overnight.
