TENNESSEE — A Mosheim man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after police say he barricaded himself inside a home following a reported burglary and theft of firearms.

According to the Mosheim Police Department, officers responded to the 7100 block of Blue Springs Parkway shortly after 4:30 p.m. for reports that 38-year-old Chad Eric Hefner had broken into the residence and taken several guns. A witness told police Hefner had been drinking and using narcotics, and claimed he “was going to kill people,” according to a department news release.

Police said Hefner refused to leave the residence and barricaded himself inside. Officers attempted to negotiate with him, but were unsuccessful. During the standoff, Hefner allegedly broke a window, threw items outside, screamed at officers, and gunshots were heard from inside the home.

After several hours, police used “less than lethal tactics,” leading to Hefner exiting the house and surrendering to officers. He was placed in custody, and charges are pending.

The Mosheim Police Department thanked the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Sevierville Police Department, Greene County EMS, and the Town of Mosheim Fire Department for assisting in the incident.
