OHIO — A Toledo man is facing a felonious assault charge after police say he slashed a teenager in the face with a box cutter near the city’s Main Library on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a police report, an altercation occurred around 3:20 p.m. near 325 N. Michigan St. between an 18-year-old and a 34-year-old suspect, identified as Leo Webb. Although the address listed corresponds to the Main Library, a library spokesperson said the incident happened off library property.
Police said Webb used a box cutter to slash at the teenager’s face during the fight, and the assault was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. The individuals reportedly entered the library after the altercation, where library safety officers intervened, called police, and secured a utility knife found on the ground.
The victim was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Court documents state the teenager suffered a “severe laceration” that required stitches.
Library officials said no staff or patrons were harmed, and the Main Library remains open. Webb was booked into the Lucas County Jail on a $75,000 bond. If released, he is prohibited from contacting the victim or possessing weapons.
The incident remains under investigation, and the library is providing video footage to police.
