OHIO — Northeast Ohio may see a messy mix of snow, rain and strong winds on Wednesday, potentially leading to delays or cancellations for school districts across the region.
Forecasters say a wintry mix of snow and rain will develop Wednesday morning, change to rain during the day, and then switch back to snow Wednesday night as colder air moves in. While only light snow accumulations are expected in most of northeast Ohio, slippery roads are possible during both the morning and evening commutes.
Cities across the Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Youngstown areas could receive between 1 and 3 inches of snow, particularly in higher elevations east of Interstate 271. The NWS is warning that wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph, which may reduce visibility and make travel difficult.
Although the heavier snow is expected just across the border in northwest Pennsylvania — where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for 3 to 5 inches — forecasters say northeast Ohio could feel the storm’s impacts. The combination of wet snow, rain, and strong winds may cause slick school bus routes and slow morning traffic, prompting some districts to consider delays or closures if roadways become hazardous.
Later in the week, forecasters say the region could face additional travel problems as lake-effect snow is possible into the weekend, especially near Lake Erie.
