SOUTH CAROLINA — A North Charleston woman is facing multiple charges after police said she illegally passed a stopped school bus and was later found with stolen license plates and drugs in her vehicle.
Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, a North Charleston Police detective witnessed a driver pass a school bus with its stop arm extended and lights flashing near Greenridge Road and Crossroads Drive. The driver was stopped moments later at Crossroads Drive and Sorrell Avenue.
Police identified the driver as Gianni Desiree Hamilton, who they say had no valid driver’s license and had previously had her license suspended six times for failing to pay traffic tickets. Officers said she also could not provide registration or proof of insurance. Hamilton told police she found the temporary out-of-state tag on her vehicle at a convenience store after a deputy removed her previous plate.
A K-9 search of the vehicle uncovered two additional out-of-state license plates, one reported stolen in Hanahan, according to police. Officers also located a controlled or narcotic substance.
Hamilton was charged with passing a school bus while lights were activated, driving under suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle, possession of stolen goods, habitual offender violations, and possession of a controlled or narcotic substance. She was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
