KENTUCKY — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for portions of eastern Kentucky, where accumulating snow is expected overnight into Monday.
The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, covers Floyd, Letcher, Martin and Pike counties, including cities such as Whitesburg, Prestonsburg, Pikeville, Jenkins, Inez, Wheelwright, South Williamson, Coal Run and Elkhorn City.
The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Forecasters say residents should expect 1 to 2 inches of snow, with locally higher totals possible in elevated areas of Pike and Letcher counties, where heavier bands of snow may develop over the higher terrain.
Meteorologists warn that the snowfall could lead to hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes, as untreated roads and bridges may become slick. Drivers are urged to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and use caution on rural roads and mountain routes.
Residents can find updated road conditions for Kentucky by visiting goky.ky.gov before traveling. Snow is expected to taper off gradually by late afternoon on Monday.
